Ama Hut Hachiman Kamado
The name Hachiman-kamado’s Kamado means a hearth, and there are several ama huts with kamado in Toba. When we visited, we were greeted with a smile from all the ama divers. They told us happily that ama divers are both friends and rivals. The president's mother started practicing diving at the age of 9, and continued as an ama diver until she turned 80. Toba is famous for its pearls, and the president told us about the history of how the ama divers picked up the pearls scattered on the seafloor, and protected the pearl industry in Toba, during the Ise Bay Typhoon. The president said that he respects these ama divers and wanted to protect the declining number trend of the ama divers, and increase their number by promoting their attractiveness. At around noon, the ama divers performed their dance, and on that day, the tour guests from overseas also lined up to dance with them. When we asked about nearby sightseeing spots, we were introduced to Shinmei Shrine (Ishigami-san). It is said that it would grant woman's one wish, and Mizuki Noguchi, a locally born athlete who won the gold medal in the women's marathon at the 2004 Athens Olympics, visited the shrine before the games. The facility has a prayer room, which can be used those who eat and drink at the facility. (For the sake of infection prevention, only users of the facility are allowed to use the prayer room). The prayer room wudu provides warm water, as it was once surprised by its coldness. Enjoy the view of the beautiful ocean in front of you and try the fresh seafood and Ise-ebi (Japanese spiny lobster). Please note that credit cards are not accepted for group tour guests. (*Ama divers are traditional Japanese female divers who collect Abalone, turban shell, seaweeds and other Marine foodstuffs, by skin diving.) (*Toba city is a beautiful port town located in southeastern of Mie prefecture, known for its pearl industry.)

As of March 3, 2024, the restaurant will have been opened for 20 years, and you will be able to enjoy fresh-caught, charcoal-grilled seafood. Originally, they were running an ama hut located at the tip of the cape, and the ama hut was almost prohibited for men. After receiving a request from Toba city, to tell the stories about ama to the foreigners, they moved to the current location. With the following decision to host the Tokyo Olympics in 2013, a prayer room was set up with plans to eliminate various barriers (religious difference, information barriers). The number of foreign tourists increased due to the Ise Jingu shrine relocation in 2013, visa relaxation and Abenomics in 2014, and the decision to hold the Ise-Shima Summit in 2016, etc. In 2016, representatives from 23 countries visited the facility during the Ise-Shima Summit press tour and highly appreciated our Halal correspondence.
