Arabian Restaurant Zenobia
On a street lined with foreign stores, there are stairs leading to the basement restaurant under a blue sign with the name of the store on it. The exotic atmosphere is made by a little dim and windowless restaurant interior decorated by various size items and lights in every direction. We were told that the small items were purchased from Morocco, Lebanon, Tunisia and Egypt. There were a few Japanese customers in the restaurant the day we visited, and because the embassy is nearby, staffs from German and French embassies come here every day for meals. I am not familiar with Middle Eastern cuisine, but I think that they serve local flavors, and did not dare to make it to Japanese tastes. You can choose from several kinds of yogurt and paste to eat with meat and bread. The grilled eggplant and pomegranate paste which was recommended was slightly smoky, and the combination with the slight sweetness of the pomegranate was fresh. The plates which were prepared had a Middle Eastern pattern that I have seen before, and also brighten up the colorful meal. The restaurant has a private room for the prayer space. Also, most of the restaurant's menu items are available for take away with a 30% discount, so please try.

The Syrian owner became interested in Japan through anime and dramas he watched in his home country, and came to Japan in 2001, relying on a friend who was running a company in Nagoya (The largest city in Chubu region, the capital of Aich prefecture). He was helping his friend's store, but his friend decided to return to Japan, so he moved to Tokyo in 2002. He was helping the kebab restaurant which his friend started, but since he liked cooking and wanted to teach Islam culture and Halal food to the Japanese who does not know Islam, he opened a Syrian restaurant in Ikebukuro (It is located in the northwest part of Tokyo, a major transportation hub, famous shopping and entertainment area.) in 2006 and moved to the current location in 2015. Also opened an affiliated restaurant at Azabu Juban (It is located in the Minato ward, Tokyo, famous for its mix of long-established, well-known and fashionable restaurants and stores.) in 2017.

Access
Get off at Hiro-o Station, Tokyo Metro, Hibiya Line and head above ground. Although it is not noticeable, there is a convenience store Seven Eleven, on the east-west street that is not a main street of the intersection, immediately in front of you. With that entrance on the left, go straight ahead. After a few minutes walk, you will see a four-story glass-walled building on your right, with a sign for the restaurant on the first floor and stairs leading down to the basement.
